AMD launched their past Vega graphics cards back in 2017 this is a very long time for its new high-end remedy to launch, especially when NVIDIA was outside with their flagship offerings for quite a while.

A quick recap of the specifications that were announced yesterday, the Radeon Vega VII is based on TSMC’s 7nm procedure node. As a result of the new process node, AMD can shrink the die size down to 331mm2 in comparison to 495mm2 of Vega 10. The Vega 20 package delivers 1.8X Gaming Performance/Area, 2x the memory capability and 2.1x memory bandwidth. IRegardingGPU config, we’re looking at 60 Compute Components which equate to 3840 stream chips. The bottom clock is maintained in 1450 MHz while the processor can reach a summit clock of 1.8 GHz. This enables the card to pump outside 13.8 TFLOPs of FP32 calculate.

The memory side has seen a significant uplift with the card comprising 16 GB of HBM2 VRAM across a 4096-bit wide bus port. There are four stacks, each of which operates at 256 GB/s, providing a total of 1 TB/s bandwidth. AMD states that the excess memory is useful for content production and forthcoming titles in 2019 may use up to 11 GB of onboard memory.

NVIDIA has their RTX 2080 Ti has 11 GB of memory and their Quadro parts include up to 48 GB of VRAM. But, AMD is focusing on content production with Radeon Vega VII as far as they are focusing on gaming.
