AMD’s next Generation Ryzen 2 CPUs are set to debut on 12nm process technology in the first quarter of 2018. The new lineup comprised of 2000 series Ryzen 7, Ryzen 6 and Ryzen 3 2000 microprocessors are said to bring higher clock speeds and much better overclockability and support of latest DDR4 RAM.
AMD’s new Ryzen 7 2800X teased: 12C/24T at up to 5.1GHz
The company is planning to rollout Ryzen 2000 Pinnacle Ridge starting with Ryzen 7 in late February followed by Rzyen 5 and Ryzen 3 in March. The new chips will be manufactured using Globalfoundries 12nm “Leading Performance” process node and will feature AMD’s improved Zen+ CPU microarchitecture.
These processors will be going against Intel’s upcoming 9000 series, which is reported to be released by June 2018. Intel’s 9000 series will bring 8 core to mainstream for very first time and will offer a better and healthy competition to Ryzen than Coffee Lake is.
Very little is known about the microarchitectural side of these new Zen+ parts, although the transition to 12nm will enable higher clock speeds and better power efficiency.
- Ryzen 7 2700: 10C/20T @ 4.0/4.5GHz (replaces Ryzen 7 1700)
- Ryzen 7 2800: 12C/24T @ 4.4/4.9GHz (replaces Ryzen 7 1700X)
- Ryzen 7 2800X: 12C/24T @ 4.6/5.1GHz (replaces Ryzen 7 1800X)
It is also claimed that the Ryzen 2 frequencies could be pushed up to 4.2 to 4.2Ghz. This is likely due to the performance and power improvements that 12LP brings to the table Low power and mobile variants of Pinnacle Ridge processors are expected to debut around April and 2nd generation Ryzen Pro parts are set to come out in May.
Motherboard makers will introduce several motherboard options including the X470 and B450 flavors based on latest 400 series Chipset design which will debut alongside Ryzen 2000 series.
The amazing news is that AM4 compatibility is remaining, theoretically speaking this means that it will take to turn any of the existing 300 series motherboard compatible with 2000 Series Ryzen CPU is BIOS update.
