Benchmarks for AMD’s upcoming Raven Ridge APUs featuring the Zen CPU & Vega GPU microarchitectures have spotted online. The mobile Ryzen family of chips is expected to launch within the next couple of months, ahead of the holiday season.
It is going company’s first generation mobile processors to feature its next-gen Zen CPU microarchitecture that was debuted back in Mach for Desktops. It is also going to be first to feature company’s Vega graphics architecture, which company only debuted last month. It is AMD’s first gen of mobile parts to be built on 14nm manufacturing technology. It delivers significant performance and power efficiency improvements over 28nm planar tech that Bristol Ridge is based on.
AMD Ryzen Mobile APUs Deliver Nearly Double The Performance Of AMD’s Previous Generation
Ryzen Mobile APU sample that has been spotted is mid-range Ryzen 5 2500U chip, featuring 4 cores and support for 8 threads. This indicates that we will see even faster Ryzen 7seven movable parts. AMD announced Ryzen mobile would deliver 50% better CPU performance and 40% better GPU performance at half power consumption when it was announced.
After looking into the leaked benchmarks, we came to know AMD has just hit those goals. The Ryzen 5 2500U managed to score 9723 points in multi-core portion of Geekbench 4 test and 3625 points in the single-threaded part of the same test. If we compare, AMD’s fastest mobile Bristol Ridge A12 9800B part scores nearly half of points in multi-core portion of the test and more than 1200 points less in a single-threaded part of the test.
This translates to a 90% performance improvement in multi-threaded workloads and a 56% improvement in single-threaded performance. These figures vastly exceed what AMD had previously promised in May when Ryzen mobile was first announced.
It may be because of Ryzen 5 2500U APU which has same 15TW TDP as Bristol Ridge part, and We have very little doubt that lower power variants of Ryzen mobile will hit those target set by AMD.
We are really interested to see how Raven Ridge plays out and hope that it is one step closer to finally realizing that HSA future AMD has been promising me for years!
