Apple bans cryptocurrency mining from its app stores

Nowadays, Cryptocurrency mining in android apps has been becoming more popular in mobile apps.

Apparently, Apple has modified its app guidelines by preventing developer to add function into any apps that are being resided in company’s ecosystem.

These updates have occurred since last week, these updates were introduced in response to popular Mac app Calendar 2 that comes with a Monero miner in with its premium upgrade.

These guidelines for cryptocurrency mining reference has been placed in two places in a section about power efficiency (2.4.2) and a separate Cryptocurrencies section (3.1.5).

According to the former apps “may not run unrelated background processes, such as cryptocurrency mining.”

Moreover, this latter has some more five subsections that explain what type of can and cannot do in terms of cryptocurrency.

From now, no apps are allowed to do mining unless those apps process that mining of the device just like in cloud-based mining.

Exchanges are good as long as they are the ones that are offering the transactions or transmissions of currency.

Therefore, any app that aims to support ICOs, future tradings and other securities must be administered by established banks, futures commission merchants (FCMs) and securities firms.

Eventually, cryptocurrency apps are not allowed to transfer/reward bonuses as a currency for downloading other apps, posting to a social network or promoting other apps.

Obviously, Apple is not a first company to ban crypto mining directly from its app. Previously Google has banned crypto mining extensions from its famous Chrome Web Store. These latest Apple guidelines are likely to apply on iPhone and macOS as well.
