Today, Apple announced an updated version of the iPad Air. The new iPad Air 5 retains the characteristic profile of the iPad but it’s powered by the Apple Silicon M1 chip into the new model. This will give users better performance and improved battery life. The new model is also more lightweight and thinner, making it easier to take on the go.
Apple’s choice to use the M1 processor, rather than its A15 chips, shows that the iPad has aspirations as a computer replacement instead of just being an oversized iPhone. This is the same type of chip that we have in the most advanced version of the iPad Pro.
Apple iPad Air 5 Camera
The iPad Air 5 includes a camera with a 12mpx ultra-wide lens, so the entire iPad line can now support Center Stage, which essentially introduces a camera operator to FaceTime video calls.
“This is the same M1 chip that we brought to iPad Pro, and the 8-core design of the CPU delivers up to 60% faster performance over the A14 in the previous generation of iPad Air,” announced Angelina Kyazike, Engineering Program Manager, iPad. “The 8-core GPU delivers amazing graphics performance — up to twice as fast in fact, M1 in the new iPad Air makes it faster than the fastest competitive tablet, and the new Air is up to two times faster than the best-selling Windows laptop in its price range.”
Apple iPad Air 5 Specs and Features
The new iPad Pro includes a 5G chip, a fast USB-C port, and an Apple Pencil acceptor. It operates on the iPadOS version of iOS, which has made multitasking significantly better. It has an unbelievable amount of power packed into a device at a meager price.
IPad Air supports the Smart Keyboard Folio and Magic Keyboard, adding the extra functionality laptop users need to turn the iPad Air into a functional laptop.
All tiny details, but they make a significant difference. The new Air uses recycled aluminum in many internal enclosure parts, such as in the logic board solder, and they tend to make a considerable difference in small things.
