While it is unclear if the M3 will be used in an updated MacBook Pro, it is expected to be used in updated MacBook Air models. A reliable leaker, @appleakation, has said that updated MacBook Air models will come out in the second half of 2023. There is also a chance that Apple will make a bigger MacBook Air with a 15.5-inch screen.
Based on the schedule predicted by @appleakation, the M3 will arrive after the announcement of the M2 Pro and M2 Max. There are also rumors that both the M3 and the A17 Bionic will be shown off after Apple’s October Mac-only event.
In terms of performance, TSMC’s chairman Mark Liu stated that the 3nm process used in the M3 would deliver up to a 35% improvement in power efficiency. But nothing was said about performance improvements, which suggests that Apple may focus on the M3’s long battery life.
