Almost all of the smartphone manufacturer was strict in terms of software modification from quite some time. Recently, most of these brands embrace software freedom and provide users with full authority on the phones. ASUS is also among those brands to facilitate its users, and it is working with XDA Developers to help them build custom ROMs for ZenFone 6. These custom ROMs have few issues but make the usage of Phone more interesting with faster response and fewer apps on the phone.
XDA on the progress said they have already had 10 developers in the team like TWRP, LineageOS, OmniROM, and CarbonROM who will receive development units from ASUS USA. To make developers comfortable, ASUS released its bootloader unlock tool and kernel source code for ZenFone 6 few days after its launch.
XDA also mention it is not a formal development program, and it’s just a trial to see how well it will perform. It might open doors to future collaboration with not only ASUS but also other manufacturers.
