American singer and songwriter Bob Dylan has won this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature for introducing new poetic style in his songs, this is the first time in history that a person who is primarily known as a musician bestowed with the most prestigious Nobel award.
Dylan is considered as the voice of generation and he has a profound influence on our contemporary pop music. He had been mentioned in speculations of nominating for Noble prize, but few people expected the Nobel committee to extend the award to music.
The prize money is US$ 1.2 million along with a gold medal. Dylan has been active since 1960s, in fact some of his biggest hits were released back at that time. Still, after more than 50 years of his start, he’s writing songs and he often performs on music concerts. Some even call him the greatest living poet.
Literature prize was the last of 2016’s Nobel prizes. The prize is named after Alfred Nobel who invented dynamite: An explosive chemical. This prize has been awarded since 1901 for remarkable achievements in science, literature, peace and economics in accordance with the will of Alfred Nobel.
