35,000 peoples could live inside CITE, a modern city being built in deserts of the New Mexico – but no one will live there.
CITE (Center for Innovation, Testing, and Evaluation) will be used to test new technologies, like smart transportation system and alternative energy sources and driverless cars.
“New technologies can be tested at scale, allowing researchers and manufacturers to manage the unpredictability of product performance before being introduced into the market,” the CITE website explains.
CITE will have all features which a modern city should have including houses, hospitals, police station and hospital. The budget of this project is $1 billion and it is backed by tech development firm Pegasus Global Holdings.
In 2012, Business Insider reported that construction was slated to begin, but the project was put on hold for a few years after CITE ran into issues finding a location, CNN reports.
Now, Center of Innovation, Testing and Evaluation is just waiting for the commercial licenses which will allow the company to start the work.
