Discord has launched its own in-app soundboard that allows users to play various sounds in voice channels for entertainment or pranking purposes. Previously, this feature was only available for select communities as an experiment. However, in the coming weeks, all Discord users will hands on the In-App soundboard, according to a blog post by Discord.
Desktop App Exclusive
However, there is a limitation with the soundboard as it can only be used on the desktop app. Mobile app users will be able to hear the sounds but won’t be able to use the board. Kellyn Slone, Director of Product Communications at Discord, confirmed this in a statement to The Verge. Despite this, the soundboard is still a significant improvement, as it eliminates the need for third-party software like Voicemod.
Customizable Permissions
Discord has also ensured that users can customize soundboard permissions in their servers. This means that if someone wants to limit the use of a soundboard to only a few individuals, they can do so by setting up specific permissions.
For those who don’t want to hear sounds from the soundboard, Discord has also provided an option to turn down the volume of the soundboard in settings.
Discord Nitro subscribers will have additional benefits, including the ability to use uploaded sounds across different servers. Nitro subscribers can also enjoy new themes, special decorations for their avatars, and animated “Super Reactions” that will be available on the desktop app. At launch, all Discord desktop users will be able to test the feature with two Super Reactions.
