Display Mate gives the Xiaomi 12 trio an A+ rating

Display Mate has released its findings from testing the Xiaomi 12 series displays, and all three phones received an A+ rating. The 12 and 12 Pro set or tied 15 display records, with 7 of them being rated “visually indistinguishable from perfect.” The 12X falls one record short of matching its more expensive siblings. Each phone excelled in different areas.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro is the only phone of the three with a higher resolution display (1,440 x 3,200 px), giving it a slight edge in sharpness. It was also the brightest, with 980 nits at 100% APL (average picture level, or how much of the screen is white) and 1,541 nits at low APL. Xiaomi calibrates the display at the factory, resulting in perfect color and contrast accuracy for the 12-series.

When set to the appropriate mode, the displays provide perfect sRGB and DCI-P3 coverage, with Vivid and Saturated ways exceeding 100 percent. It’s worth noting that the Xiaomi 12 and 12X displays can both display 68 billion colors – in other words, they have 12-bit panels. As far as we can tell, those are the first 12-bit panels on a smartphone. To enjoy the full benefits of 12-bit color, you’ll need footage encoded with Dolby Vision – fortunately, the phones come with Dolby Vision certification.
