Does Instagram notify When you Screenshot a Story?

Answer: No, but Instagram previously tested a screenshot notification feature for stories.

Developers of Instagram tested this feature for months but decided not to implement it in the app. This feature was meant to send a notification to the user whos story gets a screenshot. It was introduced for few users from February of 2018 to June 2018; later on, it was removed from the app. Now Instagram users can freely take a screenshot of other’s stories and save them without and the owner getting a notification.

Does Instagram Send Notifications for Screenshots of Direct Messages?

Answer: Yes, but only for disappearing photos and videos.

First, you have to know what is a disappearing video and photo message. Disappearing photo or video message is one you capture with the camera while inside the Instagram app. After that, You send these disappearing messages trough DM (Direct Message) to an individual or a group. As per Instagram’s help section, screenshot notifications display once any of the recipients take a screenshot of the DM.

If recipients take a screenshot of non-disappearing content, for example, posts from feeds, text, or hashtags sent through the direct message, you will not get a notification.

Does Instagram Send Notifications for Screenshots of Photo or Video Posts?

Answer: No.

If you take a screenshot of a regular photo or a video post seen in the home feed, user profile, and even in the Explore tab, you are safe to capture a screenshot. Not just screenshot, but if you have decided to capture screen recording user still will not be verified.


If you have any third-party application installed on your iOS or an Android Phone, uninstall it immediately. The next recommended thing is to change your password to make sure your account is safe, and no one has your password.
