Ethernet doesn’t have a valid IP configuration Error | How to Fix

Oftenly, you may interact with an error entitled as “Ethernet doesn’t have a valid IP configuration error”. One of the main reasons behind this error is that DHCP does not have access to receive a valid IP Address from your NIC (Network Interface Card). By Default, Dynamic IP Configuration is enabled which prevents the user from changing the setting in order to connect to a network having DHCP server. As Ethernet does not contain any DHCP server, therefore, you may not be able to access the Internet. And, you might receive an error like “Limited connectivity or No internet access.”

Follow the method to fix Ethernet doesn’t have a valid IP configuration

Method 1: Reinstalling TCP/IP Settings

  1. If you are using Windows 10, Type cmd in Cortana and click “Command Prompt.
  2. After opening “Command Prompt”, Type following commands in the editor and then hit enter.
  3. netsh winsock reset
  4. netsh int ip reset 
  5. For applying these changes, you need to “Restart Your PC.”

Method 2: Disable and Enable your NIC(Network Interface Card)

  1. Hold Windows Key and press R (Windows key + R), then type “cpl” and click “OK” button OR press “Enter Key”.
  2. Now, Right click the “NIC/Wi-Fi” having issues.
  3. Click on Disable option and then after a couple of minutes, click Enable
  4. Wait until it receives an IP Address successfully.
  5. Well, if the problem still exists then goto Cortana, Type cmd and hit the enter key.
  6. In Command Prompt, Enter “ipconfig /release”, “ipconfig /flushdns”, and “ipconfig /renew” and press Enter Key.
  7. You need to Restart Your PC in order to save these changes. And, check whether the issue is resolved or not.

Method 3: Change Network Adapter Settings

  1. Hold Windows Key and press R (Windows key + R), then type “cpl” and click “OK” button OR press “Enter Key”.
  2. Now, Right click the “NIC/Wi-Fi” having issues.
  3. Click on Properties.
  4. Choose Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/Ipv4) and then Click Properties
  5. Make sure, the following options are checked
    • Obtain an IP address automatically
    • Obtain DNS server address automatically.
  6. Click OK button to close Wi-Fi Properties.
  7. Now, Restart Your PC to apply these changes.

Method 4: Uninstall Ethernet Drivers

  1. Hold Windows Key and press R (Windows key + R), then type “msc” and click “OK” button OR press “Enter Key”.
  2. Click on Network Adapters and look for Network Adapter that has issues and Uninstalls
  3. Click OK to confirm Uninstalling.
  4. In the Menu Bar, click Action and  Scan for hardware changes.
  5. Restart your PC to make changes work.

Method 5: Update your drivers

  1. Hold Windows Key and press R (Windows key + R), then type “mcs” and click “OK” button OR press “Enter Key”.
  2. Click on Network Adapters and look for Network Adapter that has issues and clicks Update Driver Software.
  3. Click on “Browse my computer for driver software.
  4. Click on “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
  5. Now, Update all the drivers listed in a list and check if it solves the issue.
  6. IF not, then head towards the website of manufactures and look for latest versions of drivers to download. Like, If I have Realtek PCIe FE family controller, then I need to download Realtek PCIe drive rs from Realtek’s website.
  7. Restart Your PC to make these changes work.
