If you remote is fault-free, it should work without any issue if there is no hurdle between the IR sensor and the receiver on the Roku player/Stick. Tip: Ensure you are pointing the remote control at the front of the player.

2. Check Your Batteries (Cells):

Another problem we usually have not just with Roku but with all kind of remotes is dead batteries. To know if your cells are not dead; remove them and put inside again. If remote still doesn’t work, replace the batteries and try again. And if the remote doesn’t work after replacing batteries, you might have to get new remote or try downloading Roku app from Play Store or App Store.

3. Restart Roku Remote and Roku Player or Stick (For Enhanced Remotes):

  1. Remove batteries from Roku Remote.
  2. Then, remove the power cable from Roku player/stick and wait for 5 seconds then provide power to the device.
  3. Afterwards, when Roku logo displays on the screen, reinstall batteries in the remote.
  4. It’s better to wait almost 30 seconds to see if the remote is making a connection with Roku device or not.

4. Re-Pairing the Roku Remote:

Re-Pairing means resetting remote and player to recognise each other.

Few steps to achieve all this could be:

  1. Open compartment for batteries and remove batteries from Roku remote.
  2. Remove the power cable from Roku device and wait 5 seconds, then reconnect the power cable.
  3. Later on, when Roku logo appears on the screen, reinsert batteries in the remote.
  4. Press and hold the pairing button inside the battery compartment of the remote for 3 seconds or until you see the pairing light on the remote begin to flash.
  5. Now Press and hold pairing button inside battery area of remote till you see pairing light on remote to being flash.
    • Tip: Repeat this step, if the light doesn’t flash.
  6. Now, wait for 30 seconds till remote control establishes a connection with your Roku player.
  7. Afterwards, a successful pairing should appear on a TV screen.

5. Roku Streaming Stick Only: Check Your HDMI Connector

Roku Streaming sticks install in TV through HDMI port. If you plug your Roku device directly into your HDMI port, you might get some interference. The solution to the problem is getting an HDMI extension; the good thing is it is available free from Roku, get one here. All you need to get HDMI is the serial number; it is mention on the sticker of your device.

You could also move the streaming stick to a different HDMI port if your TV has one to spare.

6. Checking Your Network Connection

The network connection matters it depends if you own a Roku player or a streaming stick. Your Roku device will have at least one network connection. Roku streaming sticks only have wireless network option; however, Player have both wired and wireless options.

If your remote is not working; follow the steps below to get it fixed:

  1. Tap on Roku menu and scroll down to “Settings” then tap “OK” on the app.
  2. Then tap on “Network.”
  3. Tap About. On the right-hand side of the screen, you should see Status. If it says Connected, you know your issues aren’t related to your network.
  4. Now tap on “About” and on right

7. Try Downloading the Roku App

As I’ve mentioned earlier, if you can not fix your remote and get it to work, download Roku remote app in your Android or iOS phone. The app has built-in features of Roku remote and makes it easier to enter text search. Searching is a lot easier through the mobile app of Roku.

8. Roku Replacement Remote

If you suddenly notice the remote is heated, immediately put it on a non-flammable cold surface and let it cool. Once it’s cooled, remove batteries; leaking or malfunctioning cells can cause over-heating. Overheating might damage the remote control and make Roku stick remote not working for future usage. In such cases, you should get a replacement remote for your Roku player or streaming stick from Roku.com.
