CD Projekt set gossips among fans when it revealed Cyberpunk 2077 would be only first-person game. Now, modders are working to develop (they even have it ready) a third-person mode for the game, and the early signs are promising.

Jelle Bakker, whose “TPP MOD WIP third-person” is Leading the Cyberpunk 2077 in third-person mod works well in certain situations, such as walking the Night City streets.

How to Get Third Person Mode in Cyberpunk 2077

There are few things you need to know in order to get the mod working. For a start, you need to download Cyber Engine Tweaks and install it on your PC. And it’s worth noting there are two third-person mods are available: one for male and another for female V. Once installed, drag and drop the mod’s plugins folder with the plugins folder within Cyber Engine Tweaks, and you’ll have the third person mode in Cyberpunk 2077. Follow the step by step guide to install 3rd person mod in cyberpunk 2077:

Step-1: First you’ll need to install Cyber Engine Tweaks, a software that’ll let you tweak the game.

Step-2: Now you need to download the version for Male or Female genders from here (you’ll have to create an account to download).

Step-3: Now extract the downloaded file to the following folder of Cyberpunk 2077:

“\Cyberpunk 2077\bin\x64 directory”

Step-4: After extraction, launch the game and you can press the B key on keyboard to switch between first person and third view in Cyberpunk 2077.

Right now, this mod is good for strolling about Night City, but it does look a little problematic. Cyberpunk 2077 has no walk mode by default and using this mod you can tell V is moving faster than makes sense for the animation, with a subtle gliding effect. Being nearly 100 hours in, I can safely say that there are a lot of 1st person animations that I reckon would need to be completely rejigged to work in 3rd person, let alone trying to make the stuff like combat and hacking work well. Don’t get me wrong – I’d love a fully functioning 3rd person camera and to be able to switch between the two on the fly, but I think there were solid reasons why they chose to go with only one perspective (chiefly not wanting to double up on the effort required for lots of things) and that there were solid reasons why they chose 1st person (scanning and targeting things in a busy environment in 3rd person could be confusing?). I know that TES manages both, but it’s hardly interaction/animation central and I personally never found the combat that convincing in 3rd person.

I haven’t played Watch Dogs, which is 3rd person, but presumably Ubisoft decided they could make it work, but they also clearly decided not to tackle 1st person, which I assume the engine would be capable of.
