If you’ve been playing around with Apple’s smartphones for a long time, chances are you already know that the iPhone doesn’t have a Home button. If you’re new to the Apple ecosystem, you may mistake the iPhone’s Side button for a Power button. Let me tell you; you’re mistaken!!!
If you’re an iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 Pro and even iPhone 13 Pro Max user, you may wonder how to power off your device. Here’s a quick guide on how to do it:
To turn off your iPhone 13, press and hold the Side and Volume Down keys at the same time. Keep these buttons down until the Power Off slider displays on the screen. When it does, simply slide to turn off your smartphone. It’s that easy! So, the next time you need to turn off your iPhone 13, don’t be afraid to follow this simple guide.
Just stop the side button shutdown proposals already, man!!! The stubborn folks with these ideas will surely end up waking the icky iPhone’s better half; Siri it is. Just for clarification, I’ll use the term iPhone 13 instead of iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and iPhone 13 Pro in the article because the guide works on all three.

Apple changing the way users do everything!!!
iPhone 8 and the earlier models had a relatively simple and conventional way of powering off the device, just the same as on most Android devices i.e.
“Long-pressing the side button until the power slider appears”
It wasn’t long before Apple decided to shove a Face ID sensor on the face of the Home button/Touch ID. Since then, Siri and Siri’s only rule over the side button. And that was how I turned the shutdown process upside down.

The fastest way to turn off your iPhone 13
A. Using Hardware Buttons
As already stressed, holding down your iPhone 13’s side button will either wake Siri from the graves or do nothing if the shortcut’s disabled. Ready to put this three-eyed hardware to rest, let’s make our way to the available options
Option 1: Without Emergency SOS and Medical ID
- Firstly, press and release the Volume Up button
- Immediately after, press and release the Volume Down button
- Then, hold down the side button until you see the power-off menu
- Just swipe right on the slide to power off the switch
PROS and CONS
This option takes longer but will avoid showing medical ID and emergency SOS switches.
Option 2: With Emergency SOS and Medical ID
- Firstly, hold down the side and one of the volume buttons simultaneously till you see the power-off menu.
- Just swipe right on the slide to power off the switch
PROS and CONS
This option takes a shorter time but will show a medical ID and Emergency SOS switch
B. Using the Settings App
If the way the hardware buttons are set up makes you mad, you can also shut down your iPhone 13 from Settings.
- Head over to Settings -> General -> Shutdown button
- Or you can easily search for “Shutdown” from the search tool in settings.

- In the power menu, swipe right on the slide to power off the switch

Force Restart; the only haven once things run amok!
With no restart options delivered to consumers, a forced restart (hard reset) is nothing less than an angel if you’re trapped with a frozen or irresponsive iPhone.
The need for desperate measures
You must be wondering what fool needs a restart feature if one can just shut down the device anyway. In most cases, a frozen or irresponsive iPhone won’t turn off the usual way. Just then, you’ll approve of this force restart option.
“Everything has a price. It’s just what you’re willing to pay for it”
However, such a feature comes at a cost you’ll be hesitant to pay for. Irrespective of the usual shutdown or restart options, force restart, doesn’t shut down the way it should. If you want to avoid problems in the long run, you should only do this if you have no other choice.
How to Force Restart an iPhone 13
Force-restarting is a little harder to do because you have to do things quickly for it to work.
- To begin with, press and then release the Volume Up button
- Then, press and then remove the Volume Down button
- Finally, press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears on the screen
The same method works for all iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, or iPhone 13 Max.
