Huawei shows Kirin 990 chipset in teaser, releasing on September 6

Just ahead of IFA (IFA is the world’s leading trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances) Huawei confirmed Kirin 990 chipset. The official announcement will be made on September 6th in Kirin 990’s event. Meanwhile, the company releases a teaser video of SoC that has 5G capabilities as many rumors suggested earlier.

The Kirin 990 is the successor of Kirin 980 Chipset also based on 7nm technology but with 20% greater transistor density. It also carries increased power efficiency; that means the battery will last a bit longer compared to 980 SoC.

There are 4K video recording capabilities that allow recording at 60fps in first-ever Kirin series chipset. I am expecting it to be based on Huawei’s Da Vinci architecture and ARM’s latest CPU and GPU components.

Huawei’s Mate 30 series is right around the corner and with the debut of Kirin 990 chipset, it is clear Mate 30 will pack Kirin 990 SoC instead of earlier 980 chipsets.
