Previously in January, Instagram had started notifying you in direct messages that your friends were active.

Now, the social media has planned to expand this feature by providing new green dot indicating that your friends have been active or online.

 From now, you will be able to see that green dot in your direct message inbox as well as you will be to see it in your friend list when you share a post from your feed.

Instagram will also provide you with a status indicator for friends who are following you or even those users with whom you interacted with.

Similarly, you do have the option to turn this feature On or Off accordingly in your Instagram settings.
