Due to a sudden settlement between Qualcomm and Apple, Intel has planned to discontinue the production of 5G modems for smartphones.

Previously, Apple had made settlements with Intel for the production of modem chips for replacing Qualcomm.

But, it is reported that some issues halted the implementation of 5G tech and probably, Intel might not able to introduce 5G modems in an iPhone this year.

Intel stated that it ” does not expect to launch 5G modem products in the smartphone space, including those originally planned for launches in 2020.”

CEO of Intel, Bob Swan stated that

“We are very excited about the opportunity in 5G and the ‘cloudification’ of the network, but in the smartphone modem business it has become apparent that there is no clear path to profitability and positive returns.”

Last year, probably in November, Intel announced that it will increase the development of 5G modem tech.

From now on, the company planned to evaluate the 4G and 5G tech’s opportunities in its PCs, IoT and various other devices, however, the company is still interested in investments for the development of 5G tech.
