Intel speeds up its 5G modem plans

Intel XMM chip

If we talk about chipset technology, two brands Qualcomm and Intel comes to mind, who are giving tough competition to each other.

Apparently, Intel is aiming to make a huge lead over its competitor by introducing a 5G mobile chipset. The company aims to launch this new 5G modem, the XMM 8160 by 6 months from now.

According to reports, this wireless device will be making its debut in the second half of 2019 and will offer a promising speed of 6Gbps for PCs, phones and home broadband.

It supports LTE and earlier technologies as well. Therefore, device makers are happy to have one chip instead of two chips which consumes extra space as well as battery.

We cannot expect any release before 2020 as the company is still in its way to complete this exciting new chipset.

It also strengthens rumors about the launch of a modern 5G phone somewhere in 2020 featuring Intel 5G chips.

Most probably, the 5G phones if managed to make their debut in 2019, will be featuring Qualcomm chip under the hood.
