Notches on a smartphone are becoming popular, and almost every upcoming flagship is going for it. Fueled in large part by Apple’s success with iPhone X, Android smartphone manufacturers are also embracing display notch design.
It is also seen in Mobile World Congress that this trend will continue. OnePlus the company which makes and provide compelling and fantastic smartphone at a cheaper cost is also going to include Notch in their next flagship device OnePlus 6.
Their next smartphone will have 19:9 notch display. According to several reports and leaks appearing on the web, OnePlus 6 will be having a notch display design.
OnePlus 6 Display Notch
Yesterday, OnePlus released first Android 8.1 Oreo for OnePlus 5T with their own customized OxygenOS open beta 4. The OnePlus 6’s code name is “enchilada”. Following are code-names of all previously released OnePlus devices.
- OnePlus One = bacon
- OnePlus 2 = oneplus2
- OnePlus X = onyx
- OnePlus 3/3T = oneplus3
- OnePlus 5 = cheeseburger
- OnePlus 5T = dumpling
Mishaal Rahman from XDA forum found reference to “enchilada” code name in Setting APK of latest OxygenOS beta along with the mentions of “cheeseburger” and “dumpling.” That makes it clear that next flagship will be codenamed as “enchilada”.
Further inspection of OxygenOS Open Beta 4 revealed that OnePlus 6 might have a display notch. There was a file named “screendecor_up_img_enchilada_1” that is found is firmware which is used by an overlay to test apps by OnePlus engineers.
This kind of overlay was also seen in the Huawei P20’s firmware files, which is what tipped me off about the existence of a display notch on that device. While it’s not definitive proof that the upcoming OnePlus flagship will have a groove, it certainly lends more credence to the earlier reports.
It is quite similar to Huawei P20’s firmware files seen bt XDA member which tipped the display notch on Huawei P20. Well, the company has not said anything yet about its upcoming flagship, so take this information with a grain of salt.
