In a survey of more then 100 news media agencies, 52% of the respondents said they have been targeted by cyber attackers since the start of 2014.
The study, carried out during the month of October 2015, comes to shed some light on the media publishing business, which hasn’t gone under the radar when it came to cyber-attacks, but has been actually one of its main targets.
According to the data collected, 52% of all news media companies reported cyber attacks 12% could not tell if one has happened and 37% sai they have not faced any attack in last two years
59% of total attacked companies were the victim of phishing attempts, 51% reported malware infections while other 49% said they have been DDOSED. Other attack types were recorded as well including SQL Injection, XXS etc.
Interesting fact is that 59% of attacked firms said they expect an attack in 2016, 45% said they’ve implemented an active data security awareness program, 48% said they don’t have a security specialist to handle this issue and the other 39% said they don’t have such program right now.
