On Wednesday, Sindh Minister for Science and Technology, Sikandar Ali Shoro stated that:
The Sindh government is planning to develop an IT City, The Arfa Karim Information Technology (IT) City, in Malir.
DR. Sikandar proposes this project, during the meeting with members of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), for the advancement and growth of the IT sector.
This proposed IT project will be named as Arfa Karim, a famous Pakistani who became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) when she was 9 years old in 2004. She represented Pakistan in various International forums like TechEd and Developers Conferences along with other events.
It is not the secret that the Pakistan is far behind from the world in research and development sector. By the World Economic Forum in 2014, Pakistan was ranked 11yh out of 144 in global IT Forum.The government believes that the formation of the IT city in Malir will help in eliminating the negative end.
Other Projects Include:
Dr. Sikandar Ali announces that the government is also trying to work on bigger projects like e-governance with several Government Departments such as health, education, law enforcement agencies, police, judiciary, NADRA and district government.
The Government is also focusing on Geographical Information System (GIS), which will give information about the maps and population density along with different indications.
FPCCI President, Arshad Farooq also appreciates Minister’s proposal of creating data banks for IT services and also give indications about creating “paperless environment to develop strong linkages among the organizations for information sharing”.
