Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the latest flagship smartphone chipset from Qualcomm. It is based on the company’s new 4nm process and is said to offer up to 20% better performance than the previous generation. SD 8 Gen 2 is for flagship smartphones for maximum performance.

In addition, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is said to be more power efficient and to support faster-charging speeds. The company claims that the latest Adreno GPU is 25 percent more powerful and 45 percent more energy efficient.

As the name indicates, the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a successor to the last year s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, and it has some significant improvements. The new processor is based on the same 4nm process, similar to the 4nm fabrication process of the predecessor, but it offers higher clock speeds and improved power efficiency.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Architecture

The Kryo CPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has one prime core based on the ARM Cortex-X3 clocked at 3.2GHz, four performance cores at 2.8GHz, and three efficiency cores clocked at 2.0GHz. These chipsets are 200MHz to 300MHz faster than their 2021 counterparts. The company claims that compared to its previous generation, this new CPU is 35% faster and 40% more energy efficient.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 AI & Network Improvements

Qualcomm has announced that its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor offers up to 4.35x faster Artificial Intelligence (AI) performance than its predecessor. Qualcomm claims that the processor can handle demanding AI tasks such as image recognition and natural language processing. The chip can handle more complex tasks, such as translating a language into multiple languages in real-time.

The SD 8 Gen 2 chip is also the first chip in the world to support the Wi-Fi 7 standard for wireless networking.

It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon X70 modem, which was first shown off at this year’s Mobile World Congress. It has dual active 5G SIM card support. It also has its own AI processor for improving 5G performance. This allows users to use two different 5G networks simultaneously.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Partners List

The processor is designed for high-end smartphones and includes Motorola, OPPO, ASUS ROG, among others. Notably absent from the list is Samsung, who was a partner for the previous generation Snapdragon 8.

Qualcomm’s decision to exclude Samsung from the list of partners for the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor may surprise some. When Samsung announced that they would discontinue their Exynos line of SoCs in favor of Snapdragon chipsets for their flagship devices, many were surprised.

Samsung had been a major player in the development of the Exynos line and it was seen as a big loss for the company. However, it appears that Samsung may have had ulterior motives for making the switch.

This is a significant departure from previous generations where Samsung was always one of Qualcomm’s main partners. It’s possible that Samsung decided to switch to Snapdragon chipsets to avoid using Qualcomm’s new chipsets in their flagship devices.

Samsung, with its upcoming Galaxy S23 series which was spotted with SD 8 Gen 2 is yet to comment on the situation along with Qualcomm for clarification so take this information with a pinch of salt.
