How to Turn Off Notifications on Discord

by Wajeeha Qureshi

Discord is a popular communication app for gamers that lets you easily voice chat, share photos and videos, and join channels with your friends. While it’s great for staying in touch with your gaming buddies, the notifications can be a distraction during gameplay. Here are a few tips on how to turn off notifications on Discord.

A go-to and one of the easiest ways to keep notifications turned off is to turn on the Do Not Disturb mode. If you are using the desktop version of Discord, go to the bottom of the screen and click on your profile picture. Select the Do Not Disturb option, and you are good to go.

The setting is going to turn off all the notifications without any filter. But if you want to be selective in muting the notifications, read on and get to know a quick way to do that too. Channel mutes and Server-wide mutes are the two effective ways of muting Discord notifications. Let’s check each one.

Channel Mutes in Discord

If you don’t need to shut down your entire chat and want to screen out the extra notifications that are a nuisance, you can mute them via single-channel mute and multiple channels mute. This option will help you move discord notifications off screen.

Single Channel Mute

If there is only one channel you want to shut notifications for bombarding your notifications, toggle that channel. Then click on the bell icon on the top right side of the screen. The icon will switch to the mute mode and turn off notifications on Discord.

Using this way, you can block notifications for the channel you muted. If there is more than one, you can either repeat the same method for each channel or use the multiple channel mute options.

Multiple Channel Mute

For muting more than one channel on a server, go to the server’s name and click on the nearby arrow.

From Server Menu, choose the Notifications Settings option. Now you can control the notifications of multiple channels at once.

However, keep in mind that even if you mute these notifications, you will still get personal notifications like @username, @here, @role, etc. The unread symbol won’t appear for the muted channels’ notifications, but you will get notified with red alerts whenever you are mentioned on any server.

Disable Discord notifications sounds and alerts

If it’s the sound and beeping that irritates you and diverts your focus from Discord, you can turn off the notification alert sounds. Follow these steps:

  1. You can see a gear icon on the bottom-left side of your screen. Click it to open the settings.
  2. From the left sidebar, choose the Notifications.
  1. Here you can control all the notification sounds settings. Turn off the alerts for messages, Discord notifications, and desktop notifications.

If you turn off desktop notifications, your PC won’t send you message alerts on your desktop screen anymore.

Notifications can be a big distraction and discord provides many ways to disable them. By following the steps in this article, you can customize discord to fit your needs and turn off notifications that are unnecessary and distracting.
