WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, has officially rolled out a new feature that allows users to ignore spam calls. Users, particularly in Asia, have long been troubled by spammy messages and calls on the platform. To address this issue, WhatsApp had been testing a native beta option to automatically silence unknown calls, and now it is available for all Android and iOS users.
The new feature, called “Silence unknown calls,” and user can access it in the Privacy section of the WhatsApp Settings. Enabling this option will silence potential spam calls while still notifying users about the calls, which can be viewed under the Calls tab.
With this built-in spam call filter, WhatsApp aims to reduce the occurrence of spam calls, if not eliminate them entirely. The introduction of this feature complements the recent backend changes that WhatsApp implemented to tackle the spam issue.

Furthermore, WhatsApp has introduced a Privacy Checkup feature within the Privacy section. It provides a step-by-step guide to help users leverage existing privacy and security features. Users can customize their contact permissions, manage personal details, enhance chat privacy. And they can add an extra layer of protection to their accounts.
The Privacy Checkup feature is primarily a tool to review and adjust existing WhatsApp settings according to personal preferences, rather than a call-to-action functionality.
These new features demonstrate WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing user experience and addressing concerns related to spam calls and privacy. WhatsApp aims to provide a safer and more secure messaging environment by providing users with more control.
